Duke Carl Philip was born in 1601.  Duke Carl Philip's father was Charles IX King of Sweden and his mother was Christina of Holstein-Gottorp.  His paternal grandparents were Gustalf I (Gustav Eriksson "Gustav Vasa") King and Regent of Sweden and Margareta Leijonhufvud. He had a brother and a sister, named Gustav II Adolf the Great (Gustavus Adolphus) King of Sweden and Maria Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Katarina.  He died at the age of 21 in 1622.
