Antonina de la Ascención was born on May 10th, 1809 in San Juan; Argentina.  Her godfather was Francisco Pensado and her godmother was Juana Maradona de Varela.  Antonina de la Ascención's father was José María Yarza (Reteguy) and her mother was Juana Isabel Benegas.  Her maternal grandparents are Antonio Benegas and <Unknown>. She had four brothers and six sisters, named José Carlos, José Gregorio, José Miguel, Florentino, Petronila, Pepa, María del Carmen, Andrea, Juana Antonia del Carmen and Paulita de la Trinidad.  She was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
