  Another Garfield township pioneer passed away Monday, October 9, 1933, in the death of Mrs. Sarah Margaret McCoy, widow of the late Thomas McCoy.  The deceased was born in Belmont County, Ohio, February 15, 1852 and passed away at her home in Ellsworth Monday at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 24 days.  She was united in marriage to Thomas McCoy at Glenwood, Iowa, March 7, 1874, and several months later Mr. and Mrs. McCoy emigrated to Kansas in a covered wagon, locating on the banks of the Elkhorn, in Garfield Township.  The family resided there until the death of Mr. McCoy two years ago, when his widow moved to Ellsworth to live.  Mrs. McCoy is survived by six children.  They are Fred McCoy of Craigmount, Idaho; Harry McCoy of Burlington, Iowa; Mrs. George Thayer of Lincoln County; Mrs. C. J. McDonough of Shelby, Montana and Ralph McCoy and Mrs. Ralph Gregory of this county.  The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 O'clock conducted by Rev. C. M. Williams, pastor of the M.E. church.  Interment was in the Ellsworth cemetery

  Mrs. Sarah Margaret McCoy
  
  Widow Mrs. Thomas McCoy, passed away Monday, October 9, 1933, at her home on Grand Avenue, this city, at the ate of 81 years, 7 months and 24 days.
  
  The Rev. C. N. Williams, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted funeral services at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 O'clock.  Burial was in the Ellsworth cemetery by the side of her husband, who passed away February 5, 1931.
  
  Mr. and Mrs. McCoy were among the pioneer settlers of the Elkhorn district, northeastern part of Ellsworth County, coming to Kansas in a covered wagon in June, 1878, and locating on the farm where they resided continuously up to the time of Mr. McCoy's death. 
  
  A few months after her husband's death, Mrs. McCoy rented the farm and came to Ellsworth, where she had since lived.
  
  Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of John and Mary Anna Flanagan.  She was born in Belmont County, Ohio, February 16, 1852.  March 7, 1874, she was united in marriage to Thomas B. McCoy at Glenwood, Iowa.  Four years later the spirit of the pioneer brought them west to Kansas.
  
  Of eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. McCoy, six survive their mother.  They are Fred of Craigmont, Ida.; Harry, Burlington, Colo.; Mrs. Nellie Thayer, Lincoln, Kan.; Mrs. Margaret McDonough, Shelby, Mont.; Ralph and Mrs. Bessie Gregory, Ellsworth.
  
  Others who survive are two brothers, John Flanagan, Silver City, Iowa; Frank Flanagan, Soldier, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Morse, Silver City, Iowa, and Mrs. Amanda Nickerson, Malvern, Iowa; twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
