Amanda was born on September 13th, 1861.  Amanda's father was John   Brownfield Flanagan and her mother was Mary Ann Piles.  Her paternal grandparents were John   Flanagan and UNKNOWN; her maternal grandparents were James Piles and Margaret English. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Thomas, John, Walter, Frank, Edward, Lee, Sarah  , Emma and Wilma.  She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
