¹ Joseph's father was Mr Stephen Bishop and his mother was Mrs Waitstill Green. His paternal grandparents were Mr Stephen Bishop and Mrs Mercy Pierson; his maternal grandparents were Mr Joseph Green and Mrs Elizabeth. He had a brother and two sisters, named Stephen, Azuba and Elizabeth.
