Katherine was born in 1824. Katherine's father is John MacDougall and her mother was Ann MacDougall.  Her paternal grandfather was Peter MacDougall and her paternal grandmother is Marrion MacDougall. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Allan, John (Richard), Jane and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the five children.  She died at the age of 54 in 1878.
