John was born on January 8th, 1786 in Marblehead, Essex, Massachusetts.1   John's father was Edmund Lewis and his mother was Tabitha Rhoades Lewis.  His paternal grandfather was Edmond Lewis; his maternal grandfather was John Russell and his maternal grandmother is Miriam Oliver Roads. He had four brothers and nine sisters, named Edmund, John, William Russell, *Child, Elizabeth, Miriam, Miriam Russell, Tabitha Russell, Polly, Hannah, Charlotte, Rebecca and Mary Caroline.  He died at the age of 23 on June 22nd, 1809 in Ship Orient - Benjamin Andrews, Master, Havana, Cuba.2
