Maria was born on December 23rd, 1851 in Golub-Dobrzyn, Poland.1   Maria's father was Lewin Pieniek and her mother was Dwora Gittel Przyszwa.  Her paternal grandparents were Abram Pieniek and Gela (Gitla). She had three brothers and a sister, named Izrael, Iciek, Salamon and Chana.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
