John was born in 1854 in Barking Essex.1   John's father was Andrew Quash (Fisherman) and his mother was Charlotte Ship.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Quash (pos born Exeter) and Elizabeth Hall; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Ship (Blacksmith) and Mary Elizabeth Duffield. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Andrew, John, William, Alfred, Joseph, Albert, Lizzie, Mary, Alice and Kezia.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 84 on May 14th, 1938 in Grimsby.  The funeral took place on May 18th, 1938 in Scartho Rd Cemetery Grimsby.  He was buried on May 18th, 1938 in Scartho Rd Cemetery Grimsby.2
