Jane's father was William Bennett (Bricklayer & Publican ) and her mother was Jane Cox (b Westminister). Her paternal grandparents were Edward born Merstham Surrey Bennett (Bricklayer then Inn Keeper) and Sarah Tulett (of Crawley Sussex); her maternal grandparents were John Cox (Wheeler) and Ann. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Arthur, Ernest, Walter, Clara and Sarah. She was the third oldest of the seven children.
