John was born on March 14th, 1560 in Eckington, Derbyshire, England.  John's father was Thomas STANIFORTH and his mother was Jane (UNKNOWN).  His paternal grandparents were Thomas STANIFORTH and Agnes (UNKNOWN).  He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Ralph, William, Robert, Dorothy, Elizabeth and Agnes.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
