William was born on October 22nd, 1764 in Stone, Staffordshire, England.  William's father was Thomas SIMPSON and his mother was Elizabeth BOX.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas BOX and Anna PADMORE.  He had nine brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, John, Richard, Thomas, Joseph, Isaac, Jacob, Abraham, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the oldest of the twelve children.
