Joseph was born on February 13th, 1779 in Stone, Staffordshire, England.  Joseph's father was John BOX and his mother was Fanny JOHNSTON.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas BOX and Ann SWINDALL.  He had two brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
