Mathias was born in 1858.  Mathias' father was John Chrysostom WALKER and his mother was Elizabeth BREWER.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Jr. WALKER and Nancy NORRIS.  He had four brothers and a sister, named Sebastian, Joseph I., John M., Bartholomew and Barbara E..  He was the oldest of the six children.
