    Jerome Walker, son of Louis Bernard Walker, in 1977:
    "Christopher lost his right hand to the wrist joint in a sorghum grinding machine when about four years old.  Was of a rather restless nature who left home as a young man and worked on the railroad gangs as the railroads were being extended out west.  A fiery-tempered man who would grab his victim's coat with his left hand and club the hell out of him with the right stub.  He died as a fairly young man at a rooming house in Chicago.  He was about to be turned over to the University of Chicago medical school as a cadaver, but someone at the rooming house found my granddad's name among his effects and sent a telegram.  Your granddad and my granddad went to Washington, Indiana and borrowed $200 between them from a bank there and your granddad took a train to Chicago to claim the body.  He is buried in the Montgomery cemetery.  He had a trunk that supposedly had any valuables he had in it but someone broke into the rooming house and pried off the lock, took anything of any value.  His old trunk was up in the attic at home when I was a boy.  It may still be there."
    
    according to Marion Walker at age 87:
    "Christopher Walker was born near Cannelburg, Indiana and worked on a farm about 1860 and was never married.  Later he migrated to Chicago, where he did construction work.  He died of pneumonia about the turn of the centruy while in Chicago and his body was brought back to St. Peter's Cemetery near Montgomery, Indiana for burial.  I remember being at the funeral.  I don't recall whether a marker was erected at his grave or not.  Your grandfather went to Chicago and arranged for the shipment."  (both quotes above courtesy of Fran Walker Lichtenberg)
