    Evansville diocese Judy Neff 2/06:
    Found the marriage record for Charles Gibson and Ann Wathen at St. Peter. They were married February 16, 1841. No parents names were given. I also found the baptismal records for 2 children:
    
    a) Caroline baptized August 2, 1849 at six months of age
    b) Charles born January 15, 1850

    on 4 Feb 1846, sale of SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of section 29 of T3N R6W for $100 to George HERROD by Charles G. GIBSON and Ann GIBSON "his wife," witnesses James F. SMITH and Nicholas WATHEN, recorded 25 Mar 1846

    My main interest is the Wathens -- my great aunt Ann married Charles Gibson and they have been a very difficult family to trace. Apparently there was some dissention in the family.  Ann and her brother Thomas have both disappeared from the family traditions (until I "dug them up.")
    
    Marietta is not in "Wathen Anthology," I'm sorry to say.  My reference for Charles as son of William is the cemetery at St. Mary's:

    And the records at St. Peter's, which gives the baptism of Charles in 1850 (since he was apparently not a Catholic when he married Ann that would explain the family problems).  St. Peter's Catholic Church is in Montgomery, Indiana.  The LDS have microfilmed their early records.  I no longer have my copy but it *may* give his parents names

    You also mentioned the special dispensation allowing two bans for the marriage.  How do you read that?  Do you figure the first one didn't take -- that someone from one family or another raised objections?
