Jessie's father was David Stevenson and her mother was Jean Martin.  Her paternal grandparents were William Stevenson and Margaret Patrick. She had a brother and a sister, named John and Margaret.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had seven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William, Robert, John, Joseph, James, James, David, Elisabeth, Margaret, Jean and Jean.  She died at the age of 30 in 1882 in Glasgow.³
