William's father was James Forbes Pollock and his mother was Janet Donald. His maternal grandparents were William Donald and Janet Towers. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Robert, David, Andrew, Janet, Lillias and Agnes. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 44 in 1934 in Glasgow.
