William's father was Samuel Pitt and his mother was Annie Laidlaw.  His paternal grandparents were John Pitt and Helen McMurren. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jonathan, John, Samuel, David and Mary Ann.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 75 on October 28th, 1948 in Ontario.
