Samuel's father was Samuel Pitt and his mother was Annie Laidlaw.  His paternal grandparents were John Pitt and Helen McMurren. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jonathan, William, John, David and Mary Ann.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 71 on September 15th, 1957 in Vancouver.
