William's father was David McGeoch and his mother was Sarah Jane McBride. His paternal grandparents were George McGeoch and Janet Drummond. He had four brothers named George, David, Andrew and Alexander. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 67 in 1953 in Paisley.
