David's father was David McGeoch and his mother was Sarah Jane McBride. His paternal grandparents were George McGeoch and Janet Drummond. He had four brothers named George, Andrew, William and Alexander. He was the second oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 63 in 1945 in Gourock.
