Margaret's father was Robert Martin and her mother was Margaret Barr.  Her paternal grandparents were John Martin and Margaret Shaw. She had four brothers and six sisters, named John, William, James, Robert, Agnes, Mary, Isabella, Margaret, Martha and Helen.  She was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 31 in 1886 in St. Quivox.
