Margaret was born on August 20th, 1799 in Newton-on-Ayr and her baptism took place there on September 1st, 1799. Margaret's father was Robert Shaw and her mother was Mary Eaglesham-Smith. She had two brothers named William and Thomas.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
