Thomas was born on January 22nd, 1802 in Newton-on-Ayr and his baptism took place there on January 25th, 1802.1  Thomas' father was Robert Shaw and his mother was Mary Eaglesham-Smith. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Margaret.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, Bronchitis, at the age of 53 on November 4th, 1855 in Dalmellington.  He was buried in Wallacetown.2 2
