John's father was James Henderson and his mother was Jane Warden. His paternal grandparents were James Henderson and Isabel Walker. He had four brothers and five sisters, named James, Alexander, Abram, Robert, Agnes, Isabel, Elizabeth, Jean and Lilly. He was the second oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 68 on May 13th, 1907 in Falkirk.
