Agnes was born in April 1852 in Falkirk.1   Agnes' father was Michael Henderson and her mother was Margaret Galloway.  Her paternal grandparents were James Henderson and Isabel Walker; her maternal grandparents were Robert Galloway and Helen McLauchlan. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Michael, Robert, James, Alexander, John, Helen, Mary and Isabella.  She was the sixth oldest of the nine children. She had a half-sister named Jeanie.
