Elizabeth's father was David Brash and her mother was Agnes Henderson.  Her paternal grandparents were David Brash and Margaret Easton; her maternal grandparents were John Henderson and Jean Spears. She had four brothers and six sisters, named David, John, David, Alexander, Jean, Agnes, Agnes, Margaret, Robina and Magdalene.  She was the third youngest of the eleven children.
