Elizabeth was born on June 28th, 1772 in Muiravonside. Elizabeth's father was Thomas Aitken and her mother was Margaret Addie.  Her paternal grandparents were James Aitken and Margaret Crauford; her maternal grandparents were John Addie and Janet Reid. She had three brothers and six sisters, named James, John, John, Janet, Margaret, Mary, Christian, Helen and Jean.
