Alexander was born on January 21st, 1689. Alexander's father was David Hay-Bruce and his mother was Helen Bruce. His paternal grandparents were James Hay and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Bruce (of Kinnaird) and Helen Bruce (of Clackmannon).
