Samuel's father was Hans Gunderson and his mother was Beatrice Mary Lariviere (Phillips). His paternal grandparents were Sven Gundersen (Gunderson) and Gurine (Gertrude) Madsen (Peterson); his maternal grandparents were Antoine (Anthony) Lariviere and Agnes (Aggie) Elinore Villeneuve. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Leo, Jim, Noel, Gary, Joseph, Betty, Shirley and Elaine. He died at the age of 75 on December 29th, 2003 in Swedish Medical Center. The funeral took place on January 2nd, 2004 in Flintoft's and was arranged by Flintoft's (Issaquah). He was buried on January 3rd, 2004 at the Fall City Cemetery.¹²

  Mr. Gunderson was a member of the Snoqualmie Valley and Cle Elum Eagles, North Bend Moose Lodge and the Soap Lake Businessmen's Club. He was an avid Mariners fan, enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with his family and friends.
  
  Mr. Gunderson worked in construction as a mechanic and at the time of his retirement in 1972 he was employed as a superintendent at Reid Sand and Gravel.
