Henry was born in 1785 and his baptism took place in 1785 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. Henry's father was John Bennet PRESWICK and his mother was Mary WILKINSON.  His maternal grandparents were Henry WILKINSON and Elizabeth BUTLER. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Christopher, John, Edmund, Mary and Eliza.  He was the oldest of the six children.
