Eliza was born in 1797 and her baptism took place in 1798 in All Saints Newcastle upon Tyne. Eliza's father was John Bennet PRESWICK and her mother was Mary WILKINSON.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry WILKINSON and Elizabeth BUTLER. She had four brothers and a sister, named Henry, Christopher, John, Edmund and Mary.  She was the youngest of the six children.
