Thomas was born on February 23rd, 1805 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England and his baptism took place there on April 14th, 1805.1  Thomas' father was John COULTHIRST and his mother was Elizabeth GLAVES. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Jacob, Thomas, Jane, Ann, Mary, Dorothy, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
