Frederick's father was Charles Elliott Goad and his mother was Harriet Reilly. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Thomas Goad and Maria Jane Boileau. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Charles, William, Joseph, Ada, Clara and Harriet. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 65 in 1906.
