Helena was born in 1887 in Masham.1  Helena's father was Benjamin Shambrook and her mother was Elizabeth Bilson.  Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Shambrook and Maria Lane. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Walter, Margaret and Bertha.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
