Petrus was born on May 13th, 1893. Petrus' father was Isak Charl Winterbach and his mother was Anna (Annie) Magretha Malherbe. His paternal grandparents were Dirk Jacobus Winterbach and Hester Francina Elizabetha Verster. He had a brother and two sisters, named Dirk, Susanna and Hester. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 35 on December 13th, 1928. He was buried in Oude Kerk Volksmuseum Cemetery, Tulbagh, Western Cape..¹
