Elna was born on January 1st, 1953 in Ceres and her confirmation took place on January 30th, 1969 in NG Kerk, Ceres conducted by the reverend.1   Elna's father is Hendrik Johannes Winterbach and her mother is Elena Alberta Olivier.  Her paternal grandparents were Jacobus Petrus Winterbach and Gertruida Magdalena Susanna van der Merwe. She has two brothers and two sisters, named Jan, Heinrich, Francina and Margaretha.  She is the second youngest of the five children.
