Aletta, known as Etta, was born on September 2nd, 1924 in Tulbagh, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa and her baptism took place on November 2nd, 1924 in NG Kerk, Tulbagh conducted by the reverend.¹   Her godfather was/is Philippus Lodewicus le Roux and her godmother was/is Petronella Susanna le Roux.  Etta's father was Christiaan (Gert) Jacobus Winterbach and her mother was Francina (Kinna) Louisa Gerber.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Winterbach and Wilhelmina Carolina Botma. She had three brothers named Hennie, Piet and Gert.  She is the second oldest of the four children.
