Gladys was born on December 13th, 1903 in Moonta Mines, SA.1   Gladys' father was William Thomas ALLEN and her mother was Alice Jane PAGE.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph ALLEN and Mary Ann HEATH; her maternal grandparents were Alwin John PAGE and Jessie CARRAILL. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Clarence, Alfred, Vera, Ivy, Jessie, Winifred and Dorothy.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
