Amy Turner

Amy was born on June 27th, 1855 in Nairne Mt Pleasant, S.A..¹ Amy's father was John Browning Turner and her mother was Jane Atkins. Her paternal grandfather was Turner. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Kendrick, Henry, Mary, Elizabeth and Ellen. She was the youngest of the seven children. She died due to Cardiovascular failure at the age of 76 on May 18th, 1932 in 42 Crown St. Richmond, Victoria. Her burial was on May 19th, 1932 in Boroondara Cemetery, Victoria.¹¹

  Amy was born a few weeks before John Turner died. Rachael Goldsworthy and Jane Turner were friends before Amy was born. Rachael was fond of children and did not have any of her own from either marriage. Rachael offered to take Amy as John was dying and Jane had other children. Jane agreed but only if she could not cope when the baby was three year's old. It is not known if the Kents took Amy at three or later.
  She was looked after by George & Rachael Kent from an early age. It is not known of she was fostered or formally adopted. She was always known as Amy Kent, even giving George Kent as her father on marriage certificate. Amy lost all contact with the Turner family until after 1885.
  It may have been when Andrew Findlay died that Amy learned who her relatives were.
  She visited her sisters in 1889.
