John was born on March 16th, 1909.¹ John's father was John Henry COOK(E) and his mother was Sarah Ann JAYES. His paternal grandparents were William COOK(E) and Elizabeth ROBINSON; his maternal grandparents were George JAYES and Sarah Elizabeth HALLAS. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Herbert, Oscar, Charles, Walter, Edith and Mary. He had two half-brothers named Sydney and Ronald. He died at the age of 2 in 1911.¹
