Archey was born in 1803.  Archey's father was Hugh Bolton and his mother was Martha.  His paternal grandfather was Samuel Bolton. He had five brothers and two sisters, named James, Hugh, John, Graham, Thomas, Margaret and Ezabella.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
