John Bolton 
John was born in 1682. John's father was James Bolton and his mother is Margaret. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Bolton. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, John and Jeane. He was the third oldest of the five children. He was buried on September 7th in Templemore Cathedral.General Notes
JOHN, born about 1682, and buried 7 September at Templemore Cathedral, as son of James and Margaret. JOHN BOLTON of "Desert" or Desert Parish, Barony of Coleraine, in 1740 (Protestant householders No. 1760) was born about 1685; the son of James Bolton (No. 3). Desertoghill is a little north of Kilrea on the west bank of the Bann River, halfway between Lough Beg and Coleraine. The widow Bolton at Artrea (northwest shore of Lough Neagh and near Lough Beg) in 1740 (Protestant householders, No. 1912) may have been his widow. His presence at "Desert" seems to indicate that he held lands at Dullaghy in Desertoghill which were held by Boltons a century later as shown by the Poll Book of 18o6 and the Census of 1821. They were by tradition here in the early seventeenth century.
