Edward le Despenser, 1st Lord le Despenser was born on 24 March 1335/36.
He was the son of Sir Edward le Despenser and Anne de Ferrers.
He married Elizabeth Burghersh, daughter of Sir Bartholomew Burghersh, 2nd Lord Burghersh and Cicely Weyland, before 2 August 1354.
He died on 11 November 1375 at age 39.
He fought in the Battle of Poitiers in 1356.
He was created 1st Lord le Despenser [England by writ] on 15 December 1357.
His father, Hugh le Despenser was also 1st Lord le Despenser, but was executed as a traitor and his title was stripped away.
He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1361.
He was Constable of the English Army in an invasion of France from 1373 to 1374.
