Joseph Payne

Joseph was born in 1822 in Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ Joseph's father was Moses Payne and his mother was Judith Beard. His paternal grandparents were John Payne Sr. and Sarah Ellis; his maternal grandparents were Edward Beard and Sarah Walker. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Oaty, Robert, Lemuel, Green, Payne, William, James, Matilda, Mary and Sarah. He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
