John was born in 1805 in Hardin Co., Kentucky.1  John's father was William Beatty and his mother was Delilah Pirtle.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Beatty and Mary McConnell; his maternal grandparents were John Pirtle and Amelia Fitzpatrick. He had a brother and three sisters, named Beatty, Sarah, Cassa and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named Uriah, Joseph, Henry, Francis, Adam and Jane.  He died at the age of 55 in 1860.1 

John's first family with Elmina McGrew

John and Elmina were married in a religious ceremony in 1825.1  They had five sons and a daughter, named William, Adam, John, Miles, Andrew and Delilah.


John's second family with Elizabeth M. Dennison

John and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony in 1836. They had four sons and two daughters, named John, William, James, Henry, Emily and Nancy.
