Charles was born in November 1886 in White Co, TN.  Charles' father was Druey Dillon Simmons and his mother was Linda Simmons.  His paternal grandparents were William Simmons and Susannah E. Adair. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Rhea, Ernest, Emma and Lou.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had four half-brothers and six half-sisters, named J. Dillon, Roy C., Barney, Druey Bernice, May, Ada, Frances Lydia, Dolly F., Alta L. and Ethel A..
