John William Dewey 
John William was born on March 17th, 1841 in Cambridge, MICH.1 John William's father was Francis Asbury Dewey and his mother was Mary Ann Smith. His paternal grandparents were Simeon Dewey and Betsey Bigelow Knight; his maternal grandparents were Isaac Smith and Mary Selleck. He had four brothers and a sister, named George Henry, Albert Francis, Franklin Smith, Isaac Simeon and Jane Statia. He was the third oldest of the six children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Lester Hoxie, Irving Allen and Mary Jane.1 -
