Ermengarde was born about 1158 in Beaumont-sur-Sarth, Sarth, Maine/Pays-et-Loire, France.  Ermengarde's father was Richard de Belmont and her mother was Lucie De L'Aigle.  Her paternal grandparents were Roscelin Raoul De Beaumont and Constance; her maternal grandfather was Richard de Egenoul. She had two brothers and a sister, named Philip I De Belo, Raoul VI and Constance.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died in Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland.  She was buried in Balmerino Abbey, Fife, Scotland.

‌Ermengarde and William of were married in a religious ceremony in 1186 in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England.  They had a son and three daughters, named Alexander II of, Ada of, Margaret of and Marjory of.
